POME Treatment system
The oil palm industry has been constantly plagued by bad publicity for the amount of pollution to the environment. Due to this, the oil palm industry faces tremendous pressure to meet the international sustainability standards. Without adhering to the global standards of sustainability, the palm oil industry will face a steady decline of acceptance by developed countries such as United States and the European Union.
The new stringent discharge standards of 20ppm BOD for the palm oil mill effluent (POME) is the latest measure by the government to regulate the pollution caused by the industry and to silent the critics of the palm oil industry. However, the palm oil millers have found it hard to consistently reach this new discharge standard. In view of this, Ronser and Shanghai Jiao Tong University designed and built a treatment system that seeks to overcome the lack of consistency in achieving a POME discharge of BOD 20ppm. In the Ronser’s BOD 20ppm system, the influent is taken from the existing final discharged pond.

On the other hand, Ronser’s POME Zero Discharge system treats the raw POME to clean water while recovering valuable minerals and biogas in the process. Ronser will be able to come up with customized designs for our customers depending on their different needs and requirements. Ronser’s POME treatment system has been endorsed by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB).
Shanghai Jiao Tong University Sewerage Treatment System (SJTU STP)
The SJTU Sewerage treatment system employs the latest technologies developed by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and is integrated and streamlined to produce an efficient and cost effective sewerage treatment system.

First, the sewerage is treated by "High-speed magnetic flocculation system" (herein after mentioned as: Part-A) to remove turbid substances from wastewater and then treated by the "Efficient Immobilization Treatment System" to remove BOD/COD, ammonia nitrogen and total nitrogen (herein after mentioned as: Part B). After going through both processes, effluent quality can reach Standard A.
About the SJTU Sewerage Treatment System
The SJTU sewerage treatment system has unique advantages over the conventional sewerage treatment method:
Smaller footprint of Sewerage Treatment Plant – typically occupy 20% of land area compared to conventional system.
Land saved for more usable development, which will increase Gross Development Value and profitability of the project.
Low sludge generated which is about 10% of normal system.
Ease of operation and less human involvement.
Treated water is available for reuse economically for other purposes.
Environmental-friendly matching Green Building Index and water recycling criteria.
The SJTU sewerage treatment uses BioAX System to perform the task, and the results are as follows:
An advanced aerobic system, with higher organic volumetric loading capacity than conventional activated sludge process.
Good performance of treatment for sewerage, industrial organic waste and biological waste.
Quality of treated water meets reuse standard.
Does not require returned sludge, thus reduces sludge quantity and handling cost.
Significantly reduces land area required compared to conventional wastewater treatment plant.
Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) developed a new concept where both agriculture and aquaculture system can be housed in the building. The system is pollution free, healthy, completely isolated by all kinds of environmental pollution, low carbon, no discharge of pollutants and the waste water can be recycled.
The core technology of the system is the controlled technology which includes the new and efficient immobilized carrier biological technology – Mass Biosystem (MBS), efficient disinfection technology and advanced membrane purification technology.

An actual R&D system in SJTU based on the above was built in the laboratory at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in the late 2013 and the new operation is shown below. The red arrow indicates the flow of the water.
This system will create a stable and predictable production and revenue for farmers and investors. The system is now being commercialized.
Rivers and lakes have long been and will still be essential to the survival of humans. Historically, all human civilizations start near a river. Rivers are the cradle of civilization. We depend heavily on the rivers for water and for food. Therefore, it is imperative to preserve and maintain our rivers and lakes.
However, a nationwide study of 116 rivers in Malaysia revealed that 10% of these rivers were heavily polluted or “dead” while 63% were polluted with only 27% deemed healthy.

The Department of Environment (DOE) study showed that 70% of the pollution was caused by human activities such as dumping and logging. The study also classified Sungai Juru in Penang as the most polluted river and considered it “dead” because life forms were totally absent.
The other most polluted rivers are: Sungai Dondang and Jejawi (Penang), Kempas, Tukang Batu, Rembah, Sungai Benut and Sungai Pasir Gudang (Johor), Sungai Klang, Sungai Buloh and Sungai Sepang (Selangor), Sungai Batu (Perak), Sungai Miri (Sarawak) and Sungai Jimah (Negeri Sembilan).
Ronser’s river and lakes cleaning and remediation system uses the new technology – Bio-Fortification Ecological Dam (SWED) jointly researched and developed by Kyushu University, Japan and Shanghai Jiaotong University, China.
